ISP topology

Wireless networks

Ubiquiti and MikroTik antennas and routers

Machine translation, pending review.

At the end of 2015, after finishing compulsory secondary education, I decided to build a network infrastructure based on MikroTik equipment. It relies on redundant routing between those devices and on security auditing through firewalls; client devices authenticate through PPPoE only.

PPPoE

Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet

This protocol brings advantages such as authentication, encryption, link maintenance and packet compression. It is used by most ISPs.

Manual router configuration

The set of protocols common to how a router works

These devices run the RouterOS operating system and need manual configuration to work at their best, which allows more complex setups. That requires knowing how services such as firewalls (masquerade), DHCP, routing tables and subnets work.
